This position is part of the Hardware Group, which is responsible for designing electronics, from requirements to production release, embedded in Whirlpool Appliances. This Group executes engineering tasks, as part of cross-functional teams, for new product development programs and is responsible for concepts, requirements, design, analysis, and testing. The specifics of this role are focused on the development of 3D models of electronic components and Printed Circuit Board Assemblies while ensuring quality and the proper fit with mechanical interfaces, and on converting the designs of engineers into technical drawings.

• Create complete designs of components and sub-assemblies, and update master assemblies with new parts, with computer-aided design (CAD) software from design layouts, marked prints, sketches, and verbal instructions.

• Create and update engineering drawings for production and manufacturing.

• Create preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis.

• Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.

• Perform complex tolerance analysis and validation, and establish component tolerances in accordance with manufacturing capabilities;

• Participate in design review activities to ensure that the design complies with the aesthetic and documentation guidelines before commercially using it.

• Collaborates with hardware engineers to convert designs into technical plans.

• Track and act on engineering drawing and specification change requests on time.

• Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or in Technical Design/Drafting;

• At least 6 years of proven experience as a Drafter using CAD;

• Interpersonal skills to work within a team, taking direction from Project Managers and Engineers;

• Communication skills with an emphasis on reading and writing for creating documentation and reports;

• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are needed to develop creative solutions.

• Experience using a PLM tool to specify parts, create product structure, and receive/complete tasks;

• Able to effectively communicate in English (writing and conversation);

• Ability to multitask and manage several projects at a time and to meet deadlines.

• Ability to create Add, Delete, or Replace parts’ Change Notices, and to write CNs to document complex and coordinated changes.

• Ability to perform independent research to determine (or confirm) the effect of change on other components or assemblies.

• Expert knowledge of Creo design software;

• Experience using Creo Parametric with workspaces in Windchill;

• Experience using Windchill to specify parts, create product structure, and receive/complete tasks;

• Experience with the development of 3D or mechanical models of electronic circuit boards;

• Advanced CAD 3D modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and DFM/DFA proficiency;

• Basic understanding of ECAD_Collaboration Tool.

• Basic understanding of how to create ECAD Cuts, ECAD Areas, Holes and how these are communicated back to the ECAD team.

• Ability to create mCAD models and properly link to Hardware part items in Windchill.

• Ability to import an EDA file onto an mCAD model, and XML.

• Basic understanding of interference checks of an EDA vs plastics and/or Tier II CAD checks vs traces.
